Explore the natural surroundings of the Sonoran Desert. The Arizona – Sonoran Desert Museum features 230 animal species and 1,200 types of plants that are native to Tucson and the southern Arizona region. With 100 acres of pristine desert environment 85% of the museum located outdoors you get the chance to see both flora and fauna in its natural environment.
Grab a hat and some water and take a walk through the museum enjoying the serene environment that the desert holds. With two aviaries, an aquarium and a special area for reptiles, there is so much to see. For the kids, there are various activities, games and exhibits to peak their interest and allowing them to become engaged in the learning experience.
The museum is open daily, all year long. During the summer, special hours extend from 7:30 a.m. thru the Cool Summer Nights program that closes at 10:00 p.m. Enjoy the cooler weather and active animals earlier in the day or try the night program that allows you to see the nocturnal animals as they become active. There are two restaurants on site giving you a chance to make it a date night.
