Downtown Jazz Fiesta

The annual Downtown Jazz Fiesta coincides with Martin Luther King Day. A number of downtown clubs and venues are hosting talent from around the world, with a special spotlight on locals. From 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., head to the city center and check out the two outdoor stages located on Fifth Avenue. Duck into the featured venues in the area for more live music, drink specials and authentic local cuisine.

The free event is sponsored by Rio Nuevo, and many of the venues celebrate the entire long weekend. Take a break mid-day and head to the yearly Pima County Library Community Sale from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It’s always free to browse, and you can pick up some great deals on local music history.

There are always a few surprise performances, so keep an eye on the official schedule to plan your jazz-ful day. The playground on Congress Street also hosts performances throughout the day. It’s the perfect place to bring the little ones while you enjoy a show. The Hotel Congress Courtyard Stage near the university kicks off the evening shows starting at 5 p.m.

On the Rio Nuevo Stage, you’ll experience a rich variety of performers throughout the morning, starting at 11 a.m. With food vendors like BBQ Rush, Bella’s Gelato, Twisted Tandoor and many more, there’s plenty of tasty treats to keep you going until the wee hours.
