Go Italian with Tucson Dining

Tucson is famous for Mexican fare and Sonoran fusion, but there are quite a few drool-worthy Italian hotspots, too. Start at Mama Louisa’s Italian Restaurant and Catering for homemade pasta and a multi-dining room family-style experience. Everything is homemade at this establishment, from the dough to the sauces and of course Joe’s Special, which comes with either white or red sauce.

Caruso’s has been in operation since 1938 and has a loyal following for good reason. The fourth generation owners have perfected garlic bread, but don’t fill up on the addictive sticks. Try the Rigatoni Bake with homemade sausage, homemade ravioli in egg paste and the lasagna al forno with house noodles.

Sweet Beginnings (and Endings)

Caffe Milano is one of the few Italian establishments open for breakfast. Known for light plates and an impressive wine menu, you’ll want to try the European-style hot croissant with butter, jelly or Nutella, over two dozen panini options and the rich dessert menu.

A few visits to the Caffe are required in order to sample all the delicious desserts, like the homemade tiramisu, pana cotta and crème caramel featuring Italian-style flan. Strawberries with limoncello, vanilla ice cream with espresso affogati style, and the lava melting cake with chocolate and almonds are all divine choices.
