MLK Jr. Day in Tucson

Choose from a variety of ways to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr., such as the free concert for social justice put on by the University of Arizona at Centennial Hall. Held on Sunday, January 14th, the program features performers from the university’s School of Dance, School of Theatre, Poetry Center and MLK Choir at Southwest Soul Circuit. The event is from 3 – 4:30.

On MLK Jr. Day, join the annual march and celebration starting at 8 a.m. The Freedom March starts at MLK Way and ends at Reid Park. Entertainment, food, music, dancing and more continues at the party in the park until 3 p.m. The Dream Continues Celebration is a free event open to the public.

Make it a Weekend of National Parks

Arizona offers free entrance to all National Parks on MLK Jr. Day. This nationwide event is the perfect chance to visit local parks, take a hike armed with a picnic lunch, and enjoy the great outdoors in cool, crisp weather. Tucson Botanical Gardens also gets in on the action with a Family Fun Day, a day reserved just for children and families from 9 a.m. – noon. The special event is free with regular admission.

The MLK Day of Service at Tucson Village Farms is a favorite annual event where you can sign up for a number of fun projects. All ages are welcome, as are groups and families. You can sign up on the spot and get to work building in the community and doing your part to remember Dr. King.
