Pima Air and Space Museum

As one of the biggest non-governmental aviation and space museums around the globe, Pima offers more than 300 historical aircrafts, including the 787 Dreamliner and Wright Flyer. You’ll find this aerospace museum sprawled across 80 acres, and 2016 marks 40 years of aerospace excellence in the Tucson area. There has been tremendous growth in the past four decades, and today the museum has five indoor exhibit hangars, two of which commemorate World War II.

There are docent-led tours and tram tours offered daily. Tour the 2,600 acre Aircraft Boneyard and military/government aircraft storage facility on a special Monday-Friday tour schedule. Every Saturday, you can bring the little ones to Soarin’ Saturdays where they can build model airplanes, learn about flight and rockets, and explore their love of aviation. These 90-minute sessions are free with museum admission.

Take Off

On August 24, visit Pima for Young Flyers Fun, an ages 4-7 special STEM program, in the Space Gallery classroom. It’s where kids can be introduced to aviation via storytelling and book readings, activities, demos and many hands-on projects which can be taken home.

The fourth Saturday of June, the museum stays open late for Night Wings where admission is just $10 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free. Starting at 5 p.m., main attractions are always kept a surprise, but past events offered LEGO Robotics, Physics Factory and Radio-controlled Jets. Make this Tucson trip one to remember by blasting off to one of the area’s best attractions.
