The Kartchner Caverns

Discover the incredible world near Tucson you never knew existed! The Kartchner Caverns are an underworld experience open seven days per week. Cave exploration just got a lot more interesting thanks to this gem in Arizona, open 7am to 10pm, where guided tours will take you on a wild ride through history. Cavern tours are $23 for adults, $13 for youth, and the on-site Discovery Center offers a number of complimentary events year-round.

The Rotunda Tour is half a mile and takes about 90 minutes to complete. The Big Room Tour is the same length, but due to more twists and turns it can take nearly two hours to finish. Rotunda has been available to the public since 1999, but the Big Room opened in 2003. Tour one or both, knowing that you’ll discover different and fascinating items on both.

A “Crappy” Situation

Bat guano is readily available in the Kartchner Caverns, making these tours not for the squeamish! However, don’t worry—most of it is 45,000 years old. You’ll learn about how water works in the caves, the Kubla Khan (the biggest formation in all of Arizona), and marvel at the strange and stunning creations Mother Nature whipped up underground.

It’s sometimes possible to book on the same day, but it’s always a good idea to make reservations early. Ask your Royal Sun front desk staff for help with reservations, and take a peek at the beautiful underbelly of Arizona few get to see.
